Smart Everyday Objects Promoting a more Sustainable ICT Ecosystem
The eco-aware everyday things have been devised by MORElab members to prevent the careless waste of energy resources in public areas where people often dilute their responsibility about the energy consumption of appliances of collective use, e.g. printers, coffee-makers, kettles, beamers and so on. One energy efficiency related typical problem is to leave these devices on when nobody is using them, i.e. people absent mindedness. Another one is that in common areas it is difficult to foresee if shared devices are going to be used soon or not. Therefore, people do not know what to do to perform efficiently, to switch them off or to leave them on.
These eco-aware appliances incorporate some intelligence to infer how they should operate. They know when they should shift from ON mode to OFF mode or from ON mode to Standby mode in order to save the most of energy.
